Floating Support Worker, Rough Sleeper Initiative (RSI)

Arc provide supported accommodation and outreach services to those experiencing homelessness in Somerset. We are looking for a Floating Support Worker to join our team to provide floating support for individuals within the homelessness pathway across Somerset West and Somerset North geographical areas.


Job description:

As a Floating Support Worker, you will be... 

  • Interacting face to face with clients with an informal and empathetic approach, offering practical support to reduce and resolve a multitude of barriers in obtaining, or sustaining accommodation and minimise the likelihood of them recurring.
  • Accompanying to GP, Hospital, DWP, SDAS, Housing Options, CSC, ASC, educational facility appointments if relevant and being an advocate for those you are supporting. 
  • Maximising income and challenging negative claims for i.e. PIP/DLA/LCW
  • Seeking and supporting with assessments under The Care Act 2014 if need identified 
  • Assisting with Somerset Councils Severe Weather Emergency protocol (SWEP)
  • Representing Arc and Somerset council at events, conferences, meetings 
  • Attending meetings, training, supervision and appraisals as required
  • Carrying out such other tasks as may, from time to time, be necessary when consistent with the nature of the post.
Hours:  
Core working hours Monday - Friday 37.5 hours per week. Core Hours 10am – 4:00pm. Flexible hours beyond core 8.00am – 5.30pm with occasional requirement for early starts, evenings or weekends for which toil or additional payment will be made.   

Candidates with experience of working with people with multiple disadvantages or have worked with people who are or have been homeless and have an understanding of the issues surrounding people with complex needs, such as substance misuse or mental health issues. 
You will be empathetic and passionate about doing something to support often vulnerable people, and with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Able to motivate an enthuse others, you will be capable of working on your own initiative or in teams, remain calm under pressure and be good at handling situations of conflict. 
With good verbal, written and technical communications skills and a knowledge of the welfare benefits system, health providers, treatment providers, housing and homelessness legislation and you will be keen to develop, learn and share your skills and knowledge. 
 
Candidates must be able to drive, have a current full driving licence, access to a reliable vehicle, with business cover to include taking clients in their own vehicles.
 
All applicants will need to have an enhanced DBS check.

 
We are particularly keen to hear from those with lived experience of previous homelessness, substance misuse, being in care and/or an offending background or similar social issues.
