Housing Support Worker

Arc provide supported accommodation and outreach services to those experiencing homelessness in Somerset. We are looking for a Housing Support Worker to join our team and provide housing management, client support, care and supervision to clients living in our satellite accommodation.  


Job description:

As a Housing Support Worker, you will... 

  • Provide quality housing management and support delivering the best services we can for those living in our accommodation who have been experiencing homelessness. 
  • ​Help all those we engage with (clients, potential clients and those who move on from our accommodation), to achieve ‘success’. Helping them to address a wide range of possible needs, enabling them to achieve positive life change, improve their health and wellbeing, feel more skilled, confident & equipped to contribute to wider society. 
  • Ensure that rent, service charges and other financial commitments are effectively managed and that clients abide by the conditions of their licence or tenancy agreement, and deal with any breaches effectively, efficiently and in accordance with Arc Policies. 
  • Help to prepare accommodation for new clients including recording repair and maintenance issues and reporting to Property Services team or other appropriate colleagues and induct new clients into their accommodation and to other associated support services.  
  • Organise and facilitate house meetings and find ways to maximise participation and engagement, to ensure smooth running and best possible experience for clients.  
  • Encourage clients to access appropriate, sustainable move-on opportunities in the voluntary, statutory, and private sectors.  
  • Maintain appropriate records, share relevant information using designated systems, (following Arc policies, procedures regulatory and legislative requirements) regulations.   

Hours:  

37.5 hours per week., Monday - Friday  
Core Hours 9.30am - 3.30pm. With flexible working between 8.00am – 5.30pm and occasional requirement for early starts, evenings or weekends for which toil or additional payment will be made.

We are looking for:  

Candidates with experience of working with people with multiple disadvantages or have worked with people who are or have been homeless, with an understanding of the issues surrounding people with complex needs, such as substance misuse or mental health issues. 
You will be empathetic and passionate about doing something to support often vulnerable people, with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.  
Able to motivate and enthuse others, capable of working independently or as part of a team, remaining calm under pressure and good at handling situations of conflict. 
Good verbal and written communications skills are essential with a knowledge of the welfare benefits system with a willingness to develop, learn and share your skills and knowledge.

A full UK driving license and use of a vehicle for work is essential. 
The successful candidate will need to have an enhanced DBS check prior to starting work  

Candidates must possess valid authorisation to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship.
