From Volunteer to Valued Team Member: Rob Noonan’s Journey
At Arc, we take pride in supporting our residents through positive and personalised journeys, offering opportunities that can truly change lives. Today, we’re excited to share the inspiring story of Rob Noonan, our Kitchen Assistant at Lindley House.
Rob first arrived in Lindley as a resident, staying for six months. A few months after moving in, he began volunteering in the kitchen, and his dedication quickly became evident. Even after moving into a satellite property, he continued to volunteer for three years while receiving support from our services.
Determined to build a stable future, Rob eventually secured his own flat and found employment at Bare Grills. Yet, his commitment to Arc never wavered as he continued volunteering for another six months while balancing his new job. When John, our Kitchen Manager, was looking for extra help, he learned that Rob was between jobs. Without hesitation, John offered Rob a paid role in the kitchen. That was two years ago this month, and Rob has been an integral part of the team ever since.
Rob’s impact has been extraordinary. When John had to unexpectedly take time off, Rob stepped up without hesitation, proving his reliability and dedication to his role. Rob even jokes about wanting John’s job one day!
His journey from a resident to a valued staff member is an incredible example of how determination and support can lead to success. John Corigan, our Kitchen Manager, says: “Rob has done brilliantly from where he was, to where he is now. I was over the moon when he agreed to come back as a member of staff, as I trust him implicitly. We are extremely lucky to have him.”
Having lived through similar experiences, Rob deeply understands our clients’ challenges, making him a relaxed, approachable, and empathetic role model. His willingness to step in and support others, including volunteering through the challenges of COVID-19, highlights his dedication to his role. Rob and John have now formed a great friendship, and John says, “Rob is a great role model for others. He is a positive example of what a client can achieve when they put their mind to turning their life around.”
Arc is committed to providing real-life job opportunities for our clients as they take steps toward independent living. Rob’s story is a shining example of what’s possible when someone is given a chance and seizes it wholeheartedly. We are lucky to have him as part of our team, and we are proud to see him thrive. His journey is not just one of personal success; it’s an inspiration for others looking to turn their lives around and a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of second chances.
A huge thank you Rob for all your hard work, dedication, and positive impact!
