Celebrating 10 Years of Festive Kindness: Introducing Our New Bags of Joy Campaign

This Christmas marks a special milestone for us here at  Arc, 10 years of our much-loved festive appeal. 

For the past decade, our incredible supporters have donated thousands of shoeboxes filled with thoughtful treats and essential items, each one bringing warmth, comfort and connection to people experiencing homelessness during one of the hardest times of the year. What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into a cherished community tradition. And now, ten years on, it feels like the perfect time to take the next step.

A New Chapter: Bags of Joy

This year, we’re excited to introduce Bags of Joy a refreshed and more person-centred way for supporters to give. Instead of shoeboxes, we’re inviting people to fill festive gift bags with small but meaningful items such as:

Toiletries
Novelty socks 
Sweets & chocolate 
Hot chocolate sachets
Festive treats
Xmas decoration ​
​Handwritten Christmas card 

These small gifts often make a big difference for someone who may be spending Christmas away from loved ones, facing uncertainty, or rebuilding their life from a very difficult place.

As Sam Parr, our Communications & Fundraising Officer, explains:

"The spirit of the Shoebox Appeal remains firmly at the heart of what we do. But Bags of Joy allows us to share that kindness in a way that feels more personal and uplifting for the people receiving it. It’s a simple change that can make a big difference at a time of year that can be incredibly tough for those experiencing homelessness.”
 

When and Where to Donate

You can drop off your Bags of Joy between 17th November and 12th December at our designated locations. Full details, including suggested items and drop-off points, can be found below.

With its new look and renewed purpose, we hope the Bags of Joy campaign will continue the legacy of the Shoebox Appeal, spreading kindness and hope throughout the festive season.
