Baxters Horse Sanctuary
We're so excited to be working with Baxters Rescue, offering horse and pony therapy for our clients.
Thanks to a generous donor, we have recently been able to fund sessions for our clients at Baxters rescue, who offer horse and pony therapy for adults suffering with their mental health. We've been to thrilled with the benefits our clients are gaining, from new activity, from being outdoors and from the beautiful animals they're spending time with. Here are a few stories of clients who have benefitted from the sessions...
James is one of our Veteran clients and was struggling with not having a focus in his life. Having attended Baxters, James is starting to come to terms with his past life and feels motivated to move forwards! He has now sought help for his mental health difficulties and will soon be starting an NVQ in Equine Care, which has kindly been funded by the Royal British Legion.
Alistair had been really struggling with his addiction to alcohol. Since going to Baxters, his fitness levels enhanced and he found it very meditative to be out of the hostel and among nature. Since receiving support from Arc and Baxters, he has managed to secure himself a flat using the rental guarantee scheme. This opportunity gave his confidence a boost and he has now applied for jobs, moved into his flat, and is still seeing Jennifer on an adhoc basis just to keep himself fit and focused. This is a great achievement for Alistair!
Micheal has been using our services for 6 months. He has found it difficult to fit in with other clients and has a tendency to binge drink. He was suffering with loneliness, missing his previous life of work, home, girlfriend, money. We asked Mike if he'd welcome a break from the hostel to get his head straight. He jumped at the chance, as a previous girlfriend had horses and he loves being out and about doing this type of work. He has attended four sessions so far and looks very healthy and has lost his red drinking face. Since taking part of the sessions, he is up early and has something to look forward too and has cut down his drinking! Mike now has a job induction and he is hoping to be working full time in a few weeks, and be looking for his own room in a shared house with new work colleagues. It's early days for Micheal but his feedback is "I love it, it's given me something that I needed."
We look forward to sharing more success stories from this wonderful new project!
